The long-awaited sequel to the terrifying Little Nightmares from Tarsier Studios, the aptly named Little Nightmares II, has arrived\u2014and it absolutely ups the ante on its predecessor in all the right ways. Boasting more than just improved visuals and a host of new, skin-crawling locations for players to lose their minds (and lives) in, Little Nightmares II introduces a fresh protagonist, Mono<\/strong>, who joins returning character Six<\/strong>, the mysterious figure from the first game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the addition of a second on-screen character, many players were quick to ask: does Little Nightmares II support co-op play, either locally or online? After all, guiding a duo through this haunting world seems like a perfect setup for multiplayer mischief. Here\u2019s the answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Does Little Nightmares 2 Have Local Co-Op Multiplayer?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Given that the game now features two main characters sharing the screen, you\u2019d be forgiven for assuming Little Nightmares II<\/em> supports local co-op play. Sadly, that\u2019s not the case. Despite its perfect setup for some eerie couch co-op action, Little Nightmares II<\/em> does not<\/strong> support local multiplayer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, there\u2019s always a slim chance that a post-launch patch could add this functionality\u2014although it\u2019s looking increasingly unlikely. If such an update ever did happen, you could imagine it working similarly to how EA\u2019s A Way Out<\/em> handled local co-op: split-screen exploration with players drifting in and out of each other\u2019s views as they traverse the world independently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alright, so local co-op isn\u2019t on the cards – but what about online? Could you and a friend team up remotely to survive the horrors of Pale City? Unfortunately, the answer is still no. Little Nightmares II does not<\/strong> support online co-op multiplayer, nor is there any form of cross-platform multiplayer functionality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of now, and likely for the foreseeable future, Little Nightmares II<\/em> remains a strictly solo experience across PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X\/S<\/strong>, and Nintendo Switch<\/strong>. While disappointing for those hoping to share the scares, the developers have been clear about why.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Little Nightmares 2 Co Op – What Does The Developer Say?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Even before launch, fans were eager to know whether Little Nightmares II would allow for co-op play. Tarsier Studios addressed this early on – back in August 2019, shortly after the game\u2019s announcement. The studio confirmed that their top priority was delivering a tightly controlled, atmospheric horror platformer, and that co-op simply didn\u2019t align with that vision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the developers, adding a second player would risk compromising the tension and carefully orchestrated fear that the Little Nightmares series is known for. So while it may sound like fun to explore Pale City with a friend, the developers strongly believed that the experience would lose some of its magic\u2014and menace\u2014if it became a shared one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
