An action game at heart, Ghostwire: Tokyo is a first-person action shooter that has players cutting across a nightmarish, neon-drenched version of its titular locale smashing up a wide range of supernatural demons and other evil apparitions from the deepest depths of Japanese folklore. Much more than just a point-to-point first-person shooter adventure, the game presents players with a fair degree of latitude to go off the beaten path, discovering secret areas, hidden enemies and much more besides.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rather than using the sorts of regular firearms that Tango Gameworks’ last two games, The Evil Within and The Evil Within 2 predominantly employed, Ghostwire: Tokyo instead embraces a system of magical gestures that can conjure devastating elemental attacks. Depicted as a cross between martial arts style kata motions and brazen sorcery, its flamboyant magical combat uses numerous different hand gesture combinations to create a wide range of different elemental attacks and spells that can be used to eviscerate the sinister supernatural baddies that are lurking around every corner.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Making things interesting is the fact that some enemies are more vulnerable to certain attacks than others, adding in a neat layer of strategy to its otherwise frenetic arcane skirmishes.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How Do The Takedowns Work?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Neatly complimenting the combat is the takedown system which is used to finish off enemies. Functioning extremely similar to the way that the Glory Kills do in DOOM and DOOM Eternal (ironically the Glory Kill system from those games was developed by Shinichiro Hara, who also happens to be the Combat Director), once players have weakened enemies sufficiently they can be finished off by having their core ripped out by a literal tangle of spiritual (ghost)wires.
